KNYSNA NEWS - South African women all over the country are wearing black and donning a doek today, Friday 6 April, to honour struggle icon, the late Winnie Madikizela-Mandela who was instrumental in the fight for democracy.
Knysna women had the following to say:
Namhla Fandase: “I was asked by a colleague today why I’m wearing black and she questioned my reasons for doing so. I am wearing black today because I appreciate everything Mama Winnie stood for…I am wearing black today because of her I can stand up for myself and challenge such questions and stand firm for everything I believe in. Today I am showing respect to an incredible and I will forever stand for what she believed in and will never go back. Viva!”
Nomhle Danti: “We have lost an amazing woman as a country and today we celebrate her, we honour her. We are saddened by her loss but grateful for all the sacrifices.”
Lisa Kondile: “We are mourning our mother, she fought a good fight and today we are just honouring her.”
Boniswa Zwayena: “Today we are honouring ‘imbokotho’, she fought for us and today we are celebrating her.”
Nwabisa Pondoyi: “Today we celebrate a woman who was a backbone of our country, the epitome of ‘imbokotho’, a woman who was willing to die to die for what she believed in. We honour her, her sacrifices and her dedication. Rest with the Angels Nomzamo.”
