KNYSNA NEWS - Repairs to two large sinkholes in Knysna’s central business district have been successfully completed, restoring vital infrastructure and traffic flow.
Deviations that affected the traffic flow had been a major headache for surrounding businesses and commuters for months.
The sinkholes, caused by collapsed sewer manholes in Long and Union streets, and in Mortimer and Trotter streets, posed significant challenges for the areas.
New gravity mains
According to a statement by Knysna municipality, rehabilitation efforts included the replacement of damaged sewer manholes, installation of new uPVC gravity mains along Gordon and Union streets, and undertaking deep shoring and continuous dewatering to stabilise the sites.

Asphalt surfaces
"Road layers and asphalt surfaces have also been reinstated, restoring normal traffic flow to these areas.
"Thank you to the community and the affected businesses for their patience during these essential repair works.
"The broader project continues, ensuring long-term stability and safety for Knysna’s infrastructure," the statement read.
