KNYSNA NEWS - A complete action plan has been developed to tackle the persisting sinkhole issue in Long Street, says Knysna Municipality.
This hole has been there for the last year and continues to grow, presenting a real danger if a vehicle drove into it.
One Knysna-Plett Herald reader said that 'it's big enough to swallow an entire car.'
Acting Director of Infrastructure Services Ezzard McKenzie says the municipality recognises that this repair is long overdue.
"Tender documents will be advertised to ensure a reliable and credible repair process is entered into with a contractor who has the necessary knowledge to efficiently restore the affected area," he says.
"A detailed action plan to fix the sinkhole at the crossing of Long and Union/Mortimer streets has been developed. Provision will be made in the next financial year, forming part of our projects that will be undertaken through grant funding. A comprehensive tender document will be compiled and advertised to appoint a reliable, credible contractor to repair the sinkhole."
McKenzie says all intended repairs, relevant traffic controls and detours, and the projected timeline will be communicated to the public as the project progresses.
"We are aware that this repair is long overdue and that our road users have been inconvenienced. We thank you for your cooperation and patience," says McKenzie.
