KNYSNA NEWS - Youths from Kanonkop in Knysna heeded the call to engage in community service as part of their 67 minutes on Mandela Day, Friday 18 July.
The youngsters visited the Dorothy Broster Child and Youth Care Centre and a community church to lend a helping hand and promote the spirit of ubuntu.
Their efforts not only made a visible difference in the community but also inspired others to participate in future initiatives.
The youngsters renovated the Hall of the Reborn Ambassadors Church in Kanonkop and cleaned various areas in the Kanonkop community.
Tessa Bezuidenhout, member of the Kanonkop Community Structure, spearheaded the initiative and thanked the chairperson of the infrastructure services committee, Cllr Beauty Charlie, whose assistance made the project possible.
She also thanked sponsors who donated towards the initiative out of their own pockets.
Bezuidenhout praised the youth of Kanonkop and their parents for allowing them to take part in the Nelson Mandela Day initiative.
