KNYSNA NEWS- The community of Knysna and its surrounds has a wonderful opportunity to give new life to unused reading books by supporting Pam Golding Properties Knysna and Plettenberg Bay's annual 67 Days of Literacy Love initiative.
This meaningful campaign encourages residents to donate gently used reading books, helping to foster a love of literacy and learning in local schools and communities.
The campaign coincides with Nelson Mandela Day and aims to uplift communities through meaningful, lasting impact. "Let's honour Nelson Mandela's spirit of compassion, equality, and education by uplifting young readers and providing them with the keys to a brighter future," said Ling Dobson of Pam Golding Properties, the driving force behind the initiative.
Just like Madiba, Dobson loves books, learning and children. She wanted to help children fall in love with books and learning.
This campaign has now been taken up as a Pam Golding Properties Knysna and Plett Social Corporate responsibility campaign. The campaign was launched on 1 July and will end on 5 September.
Books donated will directly benefit children in early learning environments, helping nurture curiosity, creativity, and confidence from a young age. Rooted in the belief that books have the power to transform lives, Pam Golding is calling on the community to get involved.
This year Pam Golding aims to get more communities and organisations involved, creating an awareness that would even spread further than just Knysna and Plettenberg Bay.
"Join us in making a difference! Spread the word about "67 Days of Literacy Love" and encourage your friends, family, and colleagues to contribute to this noble cause. Together, we can empower children, one book at a time," said the Pam Golding team.
"On the culmination of our campaign, we will distribute the collected books to schools, libraries, and community centres, bringing the gift of literacy to those who need it most."
Pam Golding has identified The Learning Tree in Knysna and Mietas in Plettenberg Bay as the beneficiaries for this year's drive. Both schools are run by the Knysna Education Trust.
Last year, 25 pre-school learners of Hlalani were the proud beneficiaries of 282 pre-loved books, 25 reading cushions and a painting by local artist Nathalie Wessels.
