KNYSNA | PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The number of Covid-19-related cases has continued to surge in the past week, with numbers as of this morning reaching figures last seen in August.
The latest numbers show that Knysna currently stands at 105 active cases, with 72 in Bitou.
The recovery rate in both sub-districts has declined, with Knysna dropping from 92,81% on 4 November to 90,95% today, and Bitou from 90,77% to 87,37% over the same period. This is the first time Bitou's recovery rate has dropped below 90% since 21 August, when it stood at 86,30%. Knysna's recovery rate is also the lowest since 28 August, when it stood at 90.88%.
As of today, Knysna has recorded 1 735 cases, of which 1 578 have recovered, 52 have died, and 105 are active. The deaths have remained the same in the past week, while the number of recoveries has increased by 28.
The number of new cases has increased to 65 (from 40 last week), while the number of active cases has also increased to 105 (from 68 last week).
In Bitou, there is a total of 784 recorded cases, of which 685 have recovered, 27 have died, and 72 are active. The deaths have increased by two, the first time that there has been more than one since 21 August, and the number of recoveries has increased by 36.
The number of new cases has grown to 69 (from 36 last week), and the number of active cases has increased to 72 (from 41 last week).
Today marks the first time that Bitou has recorded more week-on-week new cases than Knysna.
