This market, started by local residents Rose Brettell and Garner, was inspired by authentic country marketplaces of old. These dynamic women wanted a marketplace where townsfolk could gather to buy locally produced goods while catching up on the local news - a market where visitors confidently know where their food comes from and that the produce they consume at the market is truly organic and filled to the brim with love and goodness.
As they have for the past fifteen years, locals and tourists gathered on the market's anniversary to enjoy a wide array of unique goods and good conversation; the only difference was that Garner and Brettell welcomed adults with a shot of sherry while children could enjoy marshmallows to roast.
Basket in hand, everybody then browsed the rustic stalls for free-range meats, dairy, freshly baked goods, biltong, preserves and much more. Stall-holders offered a variety of goods at specially discounted prices to celebrate the years of successful trading at the popular market
Garner and Brettell continue to live by their ethos of promoting local food security, local skills, local and seasonal food awareness and local community-mindfulness, and it shows at the Wild Oats Community Farmers’ Market.
