KNYSNA NEWS - At 14:16, Thursday, 23 November, NSRI Knysna duty crew were activated following reports from the Featherbed Company and Nature Reserve ferry Paddle Cruiser that they had rescued an unconscious male who was found floating in the channel in the middle of between the Knysna Heads.
ER24 ambulance services were also activated, Jerome Simonis, NSRI Knysna station commander, said.
According to Simonis, the local man, believed to be aged 26, appears to have gotten into difficulty while taking a swim and crew of the passenger ferry Paddle Cruiser noticed the man floating in the water and went to his rescue.
The ferry crew took the man onboard and finding him to be unconscious they placed him in the medical recovery position while raising the alarm.
“Our NSRI Knysna duty crew launched our sea rescue craft Jaytee !V and arrived on the scene at 14:20.
"Our NSRI medics assessed the patient who had started to regain consciousness and was in a stable condition.
"He was transferred onto our sea rescue craft and brought to the San Parks jetty where an ER24 ambulance crew took over care of the man.
He has been transported to hospital by an ER24 ambulance in a stable condition and he is expected to make a full recovery,” said Simonis.
NSRI commend the skipper and crew of the Featherbed Company and Nature Reserve passenger ferry Paddle Cruiser for the swift rescue efforts that saved this man’s life.
