KARATARA NEWS - The Western Cape Department of Social Development hosted a Job Hunt Application/Career Assistance Day at the Karatara Community Hall on Thursday 29 June to combat the high youth unemployment rate in rural communities.
The focus was on CV building and providing career guidance with the help of various stakeholders.
The Youth Development programme is spearheaded by Lauren Fredericks of the department who has facilitated a number of outreach programmes in surrounding communities.
"We assist youths with online applications, show them how to complete an application form, the correct CV format, and how to submit an application for a vacancy - skills that a lot of young people in these areas don't have," said Fredericks.
"Ward 2 is one of the communities in the greater Knysna with very limited resources. So, this initiative is to join hands and help and support our young people to apply for opportunities," said Devoline Molligan, community development worker at the Western Cape Department of Local Government.
The objective of the programme was to equip job seekers with skills such as formatting CVs and certifying documents.
The programme received positive feedback from participants and instilled hope in the youth who attended.
The programme also promoted training opportunities at Chrysalis Academy for young men aged 18 to 25.
