KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna might be prone to more robberies as the suspects involved in two recent robberies are still at large.
The first took place at Rushmere Farm in Sedgefield, on the Karatara road, on 8 November.
It is alleged that five suspects with two revolvers and three knives tied up the tenants, ransacked the house and took off with their jewellery, money and smaller items. The incident took place at about 20:30.
Knysna police's Captain Dewald Kitching said the 29-year-old complainant went outside to inspect after hearing their dog barking and he was met by three coloured men, two of whom were armed. "They apprehended him, tied up the complainant and his parents with cable ties. After they took off, the complainant managed to free himself and his parents and then called the police."
Kitching said the men fled on foot. The police searched the area, he said, but the search was unsuccessful. "There wasn't clear description of the suspects but anyone with information that might assist with the case can please contact investigating officer Sergeant Vusumzi Xokozela on (044) 302 6652."
The second incident took place on 12 November at Eastford Downs at about 22:30. It is alleged that three men wearing balaclavas robbed the couple, stole their money and jewellery but left their phones. One man was armed. Kitching said no arrests have been made on this matter either but anyone with information can call Sergeant Xolani Petros on 044 302 6652.
Eastford committee member Leslie Bosman said they are pleased with how the police and security guards have attended to this incident as well as one that happened about two months ago. "People have so many opinions about what could be the reason why we have these break-ins but none of these are based on facts. This is not something we should be overly worried about."
He added that residents in the area have considered looking into upgrading their household security. "The first robbery was around August and we received excellent service from the police and we are confident they are following all leads to trace the suspects," said Bosman.
