PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The stork had quite a hefty job when it visited the Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve recently to deliver their latest edition - a giraffe calf.
Park manager Heike Senekal said they were awaiting the birth when they noticed one of their female giraffes was pregnant, but the birth took them by surprise. "She steered clear of rangers and visitors and we only noticed the little calf about four days after it was born," Senekal said
She added that the calf and its mother were doing well, but still staying out of the limelight. "We haven't been able to get close enough to establish if it is male or female or to snap a good photograph."
Senekal said the procreation of the reserve's animals was a sign that they were flourishing.
She added that the stork is set to be busy at the reserve within the next couple of weeks as there are at least two other pregnant giraffes roaming the area on the outskirts of Plettenberg Bay.
