The biggest drug bust was on December 26, 2016 when police seized several boxes of “raw crystal Tik”.
Police spokesman Captain Marlene Pieterse said during the early hours of the morning police officers had set up a routine vehicle checkpoint at the traffic circle on the N2 in Plettenberg Bay.
At about 00:30 they pulled over a white Volkswagen Amarok double cab bakkie. “After searching the vehicle they found different types of cereal boxes in the load bin. It was discovered that in some of the boxes there was raw crystal Tik,” Pieterse said.
She added that the estimated street value of the drugs was about R12-million.
Pieterse said the 38-year-old driver, a Nigerian national, was arrested on the spot for allegedly dealing with drugs.
It was later discovered that the drugs were destined for George.
Plettenberg Bay station commander Colonel Nolan Michaels commended the officers for their good work.
Two days later officers of the local crime prevention unit were busy conducting a routine patrol when they noticed a suspicious vehicle.
When the driver of the vehicle, a white Ford Bantam bakkie, spotted police, he stopped, exited the vehicle and ran away. A passenger followed suit.
“Police officers gave chase and managed to nab and search one of the men. They found 14 Mandrax pills with an estimated value of R700 as well as R1420 cash on the suspect,” Pieterse said.
She added the suspect had been arrested for possession of Mandrax.
Just before Christmas police arrested a 47-year-old woman for drug possession after they found Tik and Mandrax in her home in Qolweni in Plettenberg Bay.
