KNYSNA NEWS - The Training Ship (T/S) Knysna recently held its induction ceremony for this year's cohort of inductees. The occasion was held at T/S Knysna, the local Sea Cadets base.
The ceremony, held on Saturday 6 May, kicked off with the young cadets giving an impressive performance of their precision drills for the audience of proud parents.
The parade was conducted by the parade commander, Midshipman Eastern Hennies, while the parade instructor was Staff Instructor Marquin van Rooyen.
The ceremony commenced with a riveting bagpipe performance by the Knysna and District Pipe Band, that has been in association with the Sea Cadets since 2011.
T/S Knysna is a longstanding institution and is responsible for helping young people aged between 13 and 17 learn maritime skills and a number of other disciplines to aid in their future education and development. The ceremony was a celebration of T/S Knysna's commitment to youth development.

The new sea cadets were called forward to collect their berets, sign the Code of Conduct and be allocated to their divisions.
Addresses were done by Lieutenant Charl Lamini and the inspections of the divisions were conducted by Jim Parkes of Geo Parkes & Sons, who has been involved with T/S Knysna's Sea Cadets for more than two decades.
The Parkes family has a longstanding and proud tradition of cooperation with TS Knysna.
"Geo Parkes & Sons has been involved with the Knysna Sea Cadets for 25 years. It is one of our most dedicated organisations that we support. Our family is passionate about our involvement with the sea cadets because we can see the development of these kids," says Parkes about the hope, discipline and various life skills that are being taught to the cadets.
