Update
PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - A suspect in a recent armed robbery in Kwanokuthula, during which an Ethiopian shopkeeper was killed, was arrested on Thursday night, 1 September.
The incident took place in Shishuba Street on Tuesday 30 August at about 11:40.
Preliminary investigations indicated that two men, one armed with a firearm, entered the shop and demanded cash. An altercation ensued and the shopkeeper sustained a gunshot wound.
The suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene.
The 27-year-old victim was declared dead by paramedics on the scene.
Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association (PBCPA) operations head Otto Olivier said after the incident, photographs of two people of interest in the matter were distributed on social media.
“A steady flow of information received during the day that was followed up, " he said.
"Last night the two persons of interest were spotted on the N2 by the Bitou Law Enforcement Crime Prevention Unit. Several security role players immediately responded when the alert for assistance was received on the PBCPA React Group."
Bitou law enforcement officers chased down and apprehended one suspect while the other disappeared into the bushes.
Olivier said a firearm found on the suspect was confiscated.
