KNYSNA NEWS - The Eden Kite Festival, held this past Sunday, was the biggest and best one so far, said organiser Jacky Weaver.
With local and international kiters in attendance, and with the weather playing along wonderfully, Weaver said on Monday 23 October that although they still need to finalise some figures, the day was a resounding success.
Kiters came from Port Elizabeth, Pretoria, Poland, England and the Netherlands.

“We’re all quite tired today, but we feel so blessed that the festival was a success. It was such a gorgeous day and there was so much happiness on the field.
"We need to thank a lot of people, especially our sponsors and our volunteers who were all great,” said Weaver.
The festival kicked off the previous night with a lively evening of music at the Masithandane Octopus Garden under the Sea, featuring Sedgefield local known as Shaza, Leroy Botha and the famous Wendy Oldfield who entertained the crowd.
The festival itself had kids making their own kites, grown-ups taking each other on in kite battles, Sotheby’s Africa record attempt at flying the most kites in the air at the same time, food stalls for the hungry, and more.
Knysna mayor Eleanore Bouw-Spies got in on the action by launching a Knysna Rises kite to great applause of the crowd.
The specially made kite hung in the sky as a beacon of hope for the entire day.
Everyone tried their hand at kiting on the day.
For those that had their fill of kites, there was the Happy Dogs agility demonstration and even some “boeresport”.
It was a great day for all who attended and significant for the Garden Route because, as Bouw-Spies commented, this event which is now in its third year, has become an important part of tourism in the area.
