KNYSNA NEWS - Despite government schools being scheduled to only open up on Monday 15 February, independent schools have been approved to reopen early. And so, with masks and sanitiser at the ready, the kiddies set off to make their mark on the big world on their first day of Grade 1 on Monday 1 February.
The first day of school is always met with anxiousness and excitement, and this year the former might just take prevalence given the pandemic and threats of protest.
Nonetheless, some local courageous Grade 1s have begun their schooling journey in these trying times.
Last week, Oakhill School was the latest institution to open up its early childhood development (ECD) centre, following in the wake of various other local centres of learning that fall under the governance of the Department of Social Development.

This week, however, it was the turn of last year's ECD graduates to take that first giant step in their fledgling school careers. While the little ones at Greenwood Bay College have been back in class since 13 January, the young kids at Oakhill School and Knysna Montessori School went to school for the first time this week.
Whether they'll be learning from home or in class, the Grade 1s have a big year ahead of them. KPH wishes them and their parents the best of luck.
