Update
PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The bail bid by the man accused of brutally killing and raping a 63-year-old Plettenberg Bay woman in her Schoongezicht Country Estate last month, has been unsuccessful.
The 30-year-old suspect, who cannot be named until he has pleaded, appeared in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrates Court today (Wednesday, February 21) for a formal bail application.
The court found that he had not proven exceptional circumstances to be released on bail and therefore denied him bail.
Hospice nurse Penny Cumming’s naked and bruised body was discovered by a friend in her Schoongezicht Country Estate home in Piesang Valley Road at 05:00 on January 29. Her home was also ransacked and her Volvo SUV was missing.
Police later confirmed that Cumming had also been raped.
Her partially burnt-out vehicle was discovered near Nekkies in Knysna later that day and her alleged killer tracked down and arrested in Kwanokuthula in Plettenberg Bay the next day.
