KNYSNA NEWS - Residents should expect delays to refuse collection, as some collections may be carried over to the following day due to a mechanical breakdown at the Knysna Waste Transfer Station that continues to hamper operations.
The municipality is awaiting the arrival of some mechanical engineers who will assess the damage at the transfer station, determine the repairs required and establish how long it will take to restore the facility to full operation.
Meanwhile, all refuse collection trucks are full and waiting at the transfer station to offload their loads. As space becomes available, the trucks will be able to dispose of their waste and resume collection services.
The situation has been further complicated by the wet weather, which resulted in PetroSA temporarily closing its gates and preventing refuse from being disposed of there. This added to the delays in collection operations.
The municipality warned that the disruption could result in collections taking place later than scheduled, or in some cases being carried over to the following day. A backlog may also develop while the transfer station remains affected by the breakdown.
The municipality said it is monitoring the situation and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
