KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Municipality’s solid waste department is currently experiencing operational challenges due to the accumulation of waste at the transfer station.
According to the municipality, the situation resulted from the temporary closure of the PetroSA landfill during the periods of adverse weather in recent weeks, which prevented the disposal of municipal waste. Budgetary constraints have also impacted the management operations.
To address the backlog, service providers have been appointed to assist with the immediate removal and transportation of waste to the PetroSA landfill facility.
The operations commenced on 11 June and will continue until all the accumulations have been cleared.
The department said in a statement that it appreciates the public’s patience and understanding while the matter is being resolved.
