PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - A man has been arrested in connection with the murder that rocked Plettenberg Bay on Monday.
The naked body of 63-year-old Penelope Cumming was found in her home in the Schoongezigt Country Estate, a complex in Piesang Valley Road, on Monday 29 January at about 05:00.
Her house had been ransacked and her Volvo SUV was missing. The vehicle was later found partially burnt out in Nekkies, Knysna.
Police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie confirmed that a man, believed to be about 25 years old, was arrested today, Tuesday 30 January in Kwanokuthula, where he was “hiding near a school”.
He is expected to appear in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 1 February.
Pojie said the man was positively linked to the crime through a security video of him leaving the complex as well as forensic evidence.
The woman was found with several bruises on her body, Pojie said, which indicated that she was most likely strangled, but he added that an autopsy still needed to be carried out to confirm the cause of death.
