PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Quick reaction by a vigilant community patrol member when reviewing security camera footage of a burglary at The Bungalow on Plett’s beachfront on Tuesday night, 23 May, has led to the arrest of a suspect.
In addition, the joint operation involving various security entities uncovered goods that had allegedly been stolen in other break-ins that the police are investigating.
The CCTV footage of the break-in was shared on the Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association (PBCPA) REACT Group. Community patrol member and former law enforcement officer Samuel Madikana recognised the “person of interest” and said he knew where the person stayed in Kwanokuthula.
Madikana requested assistance when he spotted the person.
“While tracking the person, he shared his live location with the responders, “ said Otto Olivier, PBCPA operations chief. “Various PBCPA volunteer responders, MLE officers, Smhart Security, Plett Security, Plett Rapid and K9 were at the scene quickly. The suspect was arrested and stolen goods from other break-ins were recovered.”
He added that positive intelligence was received on the goods allegedly stolen at The Bungalow. “Excellent cohesion and a great outcome! Well done to all involved.”
Paul Duverge, managing director of of Raw Africa Group that operates The Bungalow, said the PBCPA exemplifies the power of collaboration in ensuring community safety.

Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies has confirmed that Plettenberg Bay detectives are investigating a housebreaking and theft docket following an incident at a residence.
“Investigation into this matter is ongoing,” he said. “In the meantime, a 24-year-old suspect was taken into custody. He is expected to appear in court make a court on Friday 26 May.”
