KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Antique & Classic Boat Show was very well attended on Saturday 7 October, the fifth edition of the show.
Beautiful boats of all description were displayed on the lawn in front of The Turbine hotel as well as on the moorings in front of Tapas.
Former racing boat competitor Frosty Langman was there to give some valuable insight to this year's barn find – a stubby inboard, racing-boat hull that was popular in the 1930s and led to a local racing class in South Africa employing this design.
Rumoured to have once held the South African water speed record, this boat was named the "Jinx" as she was extremely dangerous to control at high speed, especially since the engine was literally at the knees of the driver.
Showgoers were treated to two "tossing of the oars" salutes from the Knysna Sea Cadets, recipients of last year's boat show donation.
This year, revenue from sponsored caps, thanks to John Metelerkamp, was handed over to Knysna fire chief Clinton Manuel on Friday 13 October, by Cameron Searle and Tony Berbridge, organisers of the 2017 boat show.

In addition, a Memory Wall to classic wooden boats lost in the blaze that started on 7 June was also donated to the fire station and will hang in the entrance for all visitors and staff to appreciate.
This was a particularly pleasing and fitting outcome for this beautiful piece, displayed at the boat show in the Project Bar exhibit and sponsored by Vees Video and 7 Signs design studio.
Thanks go to all our visitors at the show and to our sponsors and exhibitors without whom we'd have nothing to show.
Here's hoping the next 12 months uncovers more vintage boats out there that can be restored back to their former glory.
