KNYSNA NEWS - One of the two men accused of the armed CIT robbery and murder of a Fidelity security guard in June has been granted bail.
The two accused, Mzoxolo Bushula (28) and Masonwabe Yizani (32), appeared in the Knysna Magistrate's Court on Thursday 23 September for arguments and judgement on their bail applications.
According to Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani, accused number one (Bushula) was denied bail while accused number two was granted R15 000 bail. "The case has been postponed to 2 November for further investigation," she said.
Bushula and Yizani were arrested on 28 June and 16 August respectively. Bushula was arrested just outside Mossel Bay two days after the armed robbery and murder of the security guard on 26 June. Police had tracked the suspect's vehicle, which was used in the incident, after it was identified on CCTV footage near the spot where the robbery occurred.
He was arrested and the vehicle was seized. He was charged for robbery with aggravating circumstances and murder.
Bushula appeared in the Knysna Magis-trate's Court on 30 June when the matter was postponed to 8 July for a bail application, but he abandoned his bail application and the case was remanded to 10 August.
He then appeared in court and the matter was postponed to 12 August when he "changed his mind and applied for bail again", according to Hani.
Not long thereafter, Yizani was arrested for a separate incident on 16 August, but was later tied to the crime and received the same charges as Bushula. After cross-examination by the prosecutor, the duo were informed on 20 September that they would hear the outcome of their bail applications on Thursday 23 September.
As he was denied bail, Bushula will remain in custody until the duo's next court appearance on 2 November.
