KNYSNA - A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the armed cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery that took place in the Knysna CBD exactly two months ago.
The suspect, Masonwabe Yizani (32), was arrested on Monday 16 August for a separate incident, but was later tied to the robbery that occurred on Saturday 26 June, which left one Fidelity Security guard dead after he was shot during the attack.
According to Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani, Yizani appeared in the Knysna Magistrate's Court on Thursday 19 August for bail information alongside his co-accused, Mzoxolo Bushula (28), who had been arrested in Mossel Bay on 28 June only two days after the armed robbery.
Bushula had previously appeared in court on 30 June when the matter was postponed to 8 July for a formal bail application.
However, on 8 July, he abandoned his bail application and the case was remanded to 10 August for further investigation. Bushula appeared in court on 10 August and the matter was postponed to 12 August when he "changed his mind and applied for bail again", according to Hani.
After Yizani's arrest on 16 August, both of the suspects appeared in court on 19 August on charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances and murder. The case was remanded once again to today, Thursday 26 August, for a formal bail application for both suspects.
