KNYSNA | BITOU NEWS – Despite Knysna and Bitou experiencing low, single-figure statistics the past few weeks, the two sub-districts have seen an upturn in cases this week.
With the fourth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic edging nearer and nearer, it's becoming increasingly important to join the vaccine rollout in SA, which is now entering the point where early vaccine recipients are beginning to receive booster shots.
As at Wednesday 1 December the Western Cape has seen 2 635 886 registrations for the Covid-19 vaccine, 46,96% of the eligible population. In the Garden Route a total of 235 131 people have registered for the vaccine, 47,50% of the eligible population.
In Knysna there has been a total of 33 492 vaccine registrations, which is 58,34% of the eligible population. Bitou has finally passed the 20 000 mark, with a total of 20 201 vaccine registrations, 47,54% of the eligible population.

As at Tuesday 30 November, Knysna had recorded a total of 8 100 cases of Covid-19, of which 7 829 have recovered, 258 have died, and 13 are active cases. The number of new cases this week, 16, is the most Knysna has seen in November.
The active cases tripled this week, rising from four to 13. The recovery rate has dropped slightly to 96,65% (96,75% last week), the second-lowest percentage in November, while the mortality rate stays on 3,2%.

In Bitou as at Tuesday, 4 373 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 4 224 having recovered, 137 having died, and 12 being active cases. This shows 14 new cases recorded between 23 and 30 November, five times more than last week's three.
The active cases rose by five this week, and is the highest number recorded in November for Bitou. The recovery rate is now 96,59% (96,69% last week), and the mortality rate remains on 3,1%.
