KNYSNA | BITOU NEWS – As has been the case in the past two weeks, the Covid-19 figures remain low and in single figures for both Knysna and Bitou.
With cases as low as they've ever been, members of the public continue to make use of the vaccine roll-out in SA, which is now at the point where early vaccine recipients are beginning to receive booster shots.
As at Monday 22 November, the Western Cape has seen 2 577 081 registrations for the Covid-19 vaccine, 45,92% of the eligible population. In the Garden Route a total of 230 302 people have registered for the vaccine, 46,52% of the eligible population.
In Knysna there has been a total of 32 841 vaccine registrations, which is 57,21% of the eligible population. Bitou continues to edge closer to the 20 000 mark, with a total of 19 635 registrations, 46,20% of the eligible population.
As at Tuesday 23 November, Knysna had recorded a total of 8 084 cases of Covid-19, of which 7 822 have recovered, 258 have died, and four are active cases. The number of new cases this week, one, is the lowest in Knysna since 8 May 2020 when only 17 cases were recorded. The active cases halved this week - yet again the lowest number of active cases Knysna has had since 8 May 2020.
The recovery rate has increased slightly to 96,75% (96,72% last week), the highest percentage since the sub-district was on 100% recovery rate on 24 April 2020, while the mortality rate stays on 3,2%.
In Bitou as at Tuesday, 4 356 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 4 212 having recovered, 137 having died, and seven being active cases. This shows three new cases recorded between 16 and 23 November, two more than last week (one).
The active cases rose by three this week, and it is the second week in a row that Bitou's figures have risen. Bitou's recovery rate is now 96,69% (96,76% last week), once again dropping due to the lack of recoveries this week, and the mortality rate remains on 3,1%.
