KNYSNA NEWS - Two teenagers from Hornlee are hoping to ride the music wave to stardom after having released an album on free music streaming site Audiomack.
Hershwin Veldkornet and Luchane Pyl are better known as Savage Kings and describe their music as a cross between hip-hop, R&B and trap.
"Growing up we were always interested in making music. We used to look up to artists and gained inspiration through some of their stories. Local artists inspire us too," they say.
The two youngsters admit that they're just breaking ground in the industry, and despite the long and often challenging path to success, they're in it for the long haul.
"Nothing can deter us from achieving what we really want to gain from this industry. At the moment it's a hobby, something we do in our spare time, and we're treating it now as a second job. But we want to get to the point where we can actually make a living out of doing what we love most."
Their first Trap Station mix tape features other local artists such as Abc league, and Magen & Teekay, and was produced by Tyler Tonic. It has been uploaded to Audiomack and in two months has been played almost 200 times.
"We believe that the more exposure we get, the more people will be attracted to our music. Our sound is unique and we've written songs that most people can identify with," says Luchane, referring to their single Pull Up, which is the fifth track.
"We enjoyed doing that recording and so far there has been a positive response from the community. We want to learn and grow from this," says Hershwin.
Savage Kings will release a music video in September, which they hope will help them gain ground in a highly competitive industry.
