KNYSNA NEWS - Anyone with an inkling of what a good night out means will be jogging, piling into taxis or mounting their pogo sticks and heading to the Red Bridge Brewery on Friday night 24 August. For this is where never-say-die tunemonger Robin Auld will be brandishing his own homegrown version of surfer-rock for your pleasure at a paltry R100 a pop.
This time around, having temporarily swept aside his travel-hardened acoustic instruments still simmering after his countrywide ramble with Wendy Oldfield, he collaborates for the first time with the rhythm section comprising bassman Schalk Joubert and Jonno Sweetman behind the drums.
Together the trio promises to dish up some fresh versions of Robin’s gatskop favourites such as Zen Surfing in the 3rd World – as well as more recent toe-curling creations.
The press release speaks of his early pop-rock anthology having morphed into a contemporary mix of African blues and roots rock – but as revellers across the globe from at least a dozen African lands to New York, London, Glasgow and Hamburg have seen over the past year – his show is much more than that. It’s an experience perhaps better described as a good old “happening” on steroids.
