PLETTENBERG BAY ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - While the last year has been marked by the global Covid-19 pandemic, Plettenberg Bay's annual Plett Arts Festival aims to bring something different to the table.
Last year the popular annual festival went virtual as a result of pandemic restrictions, but this year the festival will be taken "back to the street" and will be centred around "something surprising, something different…something unexpected".
Festival director Cindy Wilson-Trollip says she is delighted about the release of the upcoming programme, which will run between 10 and 20 July, and offers some insight into some of the festival's more unique events.
"After last year's successful online event, we were keen to get back outdoors, get onto the streets and use all of our senses to hear, see, taste, feel and smell both the beauty of Plett and the wonderful products of talented artists. This year's programme will surprise and enchant you," Wilson-Trollip says.
At the heart of this new vision, visitors will find secret gardens, restaurants and attractions, with performances and exhibitions popping up in unexpected places.
"There will be opportunities to explore and adventure in the wild while enjoying exhilarating, inspiring and experimental art. A downloadable map will be your guide to the galaxy and titillating invitations will skim their way across the airwaves to entice you to search for the unexpected, seek out the unique and immerse yourself in a world of wonder," says Wilson-Trollip.
Plett Tourism chief executive Patty Butterworth said the past year had been a challenging one, but it gave many the opportunity to reflect on what is important.
"The Plett Arts community is amazing, supportive, and has made clear how much this festival means to them. We want our community to know that we have been listening and have adapted this year's festival to ensure safety of our guests and to provide the best programming yet. We are excited about this year's festival and feel that we have put together something for everyone to enjoy."
The Plett Arts Festival is now in its ninth year and is an anchor for Plett Tourism's cultural and heritage community, centred around Plett's winter season.
"We are dedicated to producing another unforgettable event and we look forward to sharing this amazing showcase of talent," says Butterworth.
