Teams consisted of several boats each, with 16 boats sailing in the junior school fleet and 29 boats in the high school fleet.
Racing on Saturday took place in a light south westerly wind, but only two races could be completed before it died. With very light wind forecast for Sunday, there were concerns as to the success of the regatta, as four races had to be completed to make the regatta legal. Fortunately a light south Easter was blowing on Sunday morning and racing could resume. However, it died during the second race of the day. After a long postponement, the wind filled in again after midday and the final races could be sailed, five in total.
The junior school fleet comprised Optimists and Tera Sport boats, sailing for Glenwood, Holy Cross, Knysna Montessori, Milkwood and Hartenbos. This fleet was lead by the faster Teras, sailed by Robyn Hellstrom and Markos Divaris, but the Optimists of James and Sean Vonk, sailing for Glenwood were consistently at the top of the leader board when race times were calculated on boat handicaps. With the top three boats of each school team being used for team scoring, the Glenwood Preparatory team of James and Sean Vonk and Markos Divaris had a small points advantage to claim the junior school victory. The Holy Cross team, with Matthew de Villiers, Robyn Hellstrom and Matthew Kershaw as its top three sailors, was a close second. Knysna Montessori was in third place - it had Oliver Price, Adrian Carr and Jaun van Rooyen as its top three sailors.
High schools
The high school fleet consisted of a large variety of craft, also competing together on Portsmouth handicap. The Laser Radial was the largest in numbers, together with Dabchicks, Gypsies, Tera Pro and Sport, Topaz, a 29er, a 420, Mirrors and Hobie Dragoon.
The individual winner of this fleet was John Marc Olivier, sailing a Laser Radial, ahead of Nathan Page and Georgou Divaris, also sailing this type of boat. In the high school team competition, it was Glenwood House claiming victory - it had Nathan Page, Georgou Divaris and Jedd Page as its top three sailors. York High was second - it had James and Ashleigh Hellstrom and Jason Cooke as its top three sailors. Point High of Mossel Bay was in third place - it was represented by Anke van Rooyen and Lea on a 420, Tammy Holden and Sanmarie Fouche on a 29er and Karlen van der Bank and Marcelle Swart on a Dragoon .
GLYC thanks the large team of race officers, rescue personnel and shore crew who all helped to make this event a success.
