KNYSNA NEWS - With the number of different sports permitted to return to play increasing weekly, canoe polo has enjoyed a welcome return to Knysna's waters over the past few weeks.
In the middle of last month the Garden Route National Park (GRNP) announced that it would be opening up the lagoon as one of its open-access areas that the public can safely make use of once again.
This meant activities such as canoeing, including canoe polo, were allowed back on the water as a welcome form of exercise for many Knysna residents.
Knysna Canoe Club has one of (if not the) largest concentrations of national canoe polo players on its member roster in the country, so it was a massive relief when they could return to the water.
"It's just been so great to be on the water again to shake off some of the rust," said Nelson das Fontes, head of the junior section of KCC. They resumed playing about a month ago, and when visiting them last week, it was evident the players were back in their element.
