KNYSNA RUGBY NEWS - In their very first fixtures in the top division of SWD club rugby, Sedgefield Eagle Stars didn't receive the friendliest welcome to the league, with all three sides going down and only managing to score three points between them last weekend.
Eagle Stars had last season taken part in the SWD President's League alongside fellow CX sides Bitou Rugby Club, Knysna United, and Greater Knysna.
After winning the league, they managed to secure promotion to the top division and, under the new SWD Rugby format, found themselves in the Super League A division. The new structure has seen the Premier League simply renamed with its format remaining the same, but the President's League has seen quite the shake-up.

The top 12 teams from last season's combined President's League log (encompassing all three SWD regions) qualified for the new Super League B division. The further remaining sides were then divided into First Division East and First Division West based on their geographical location. Knysna United will take part in the Super League B division which also kicked off last weekend while Greater Knysna and Bitou will find themselves in the First Division East league due to only begin in April.
Eagle Stars were handed a tough ask in their first Super League A clash as they were pitted against last season's third-placed club and former SA Rugby Union (Saru) Gold Cup side, Progress Rugby Club. Both clubs' three teams came together on Grassy Park in Smutsville, with Eagle Stars' third team playing its first competitive game. The first game of the day was a runaway victory for Progress as they managed to sweep aside the home team 58-0.
Thereafter came the second teams, and Eagle Stars' second XV would be the only Eagle Stars side to register any points on the day. It wouldn't be enough to stop a tough Progress outfit however as the visitors emerged 21-3 victors. Hoping for a better result than their other side, Eagle Stars' 1st XV ran out at 16:00 to a loud roar from the home crowd. This wouldn't be enough to inspire them to victory though, as Progress would run amok, dominating at scrum time, and showing better presence and experience on the ball. Progress eventually emerged victorious 47-0, sending Eagle Stars into their next fixture (also at home) in need of a few positives.
