The announcement, set to take place in Johannesburg later this morning, will see South African Rugby appointing a successor to Heyneke Meyer, who took the team to a third place finish in last year’s Rugby World Cup.
While the South African Rugby Union (Saru) has remained tight-lipped over the matter, the South African rugby community is convinced that Allister Coetzee will be named as the new coach of the Springboks.
The former Stormers man, who also served as assistant coach to Jake White during his World Cup success in 2007, has previous stated his desire to coach the national side.
Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula says whoever the new coach will be, must learn from South Africa’s success in 2015 Rugby World Cup.
“Address all the challenges that would have risen in building on the solid foundation of where Heyneke Meyer has left off.”
Mbalula has encouraged the new coach to continue the good work done before him.
“We’re starting, not from afresh but to build on that achievement with the new coach and to address all the challenges to really help the team to conquer.”
