GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO NEWS – Following a narrow loss at home to Happy Hearts two weeks ago, Knysna United travelled to Oudtshoorn to face Spring Roses last weekend, returning home with a welcome win to revive their form.
Knysna United were enjoying a flying start to the 2022 SWD Rugby season, winning each of their first four games before Easter break.
Thereafter they took a slightly longer break than the rest of the clubs in the SWD Super League B, not playing a match during the fifth round of fixtures on 23 April.
They returned to action instead of on 30 April and were narrowly defeated at home at Loerie Park by Happy Hearts.
Eager to right their mistakes from the previous week, Knysna United battled it out against Spring Roses in Bridgton on the evening of Friday 6 May.
The second teams played their match first, with the men from Knysna giving their opponents a 22-7 beating.
The first team was hoping to repeat this success when they faced their counterparts and they managed just this, with the 29-22 score indicating a return to their winning ways in the SWD Super League B.
The win takes Knysna United up to the third place, level on points with Seagulls (but behind on score difference) and then one point adrift from first-placed Albertinia Rangers.
They will face Silver Stars at home at Loerie Park this Saturday, 14 May.
The CX clubs in SWD Super League A had a tough time on Saturday 7 May.
Sedgefield Eagle Stars played against Maori in a must-win encounter in Smutsville if they wanted to rise from the bottom of the table.
This didn't happen, however. The third team played first and Maori won 44-5. Maori's second team also won their game, 20-11.
The first team game was a closer affair, but Maori still came out tops with
26-21, keeping Eagle Stars bottom of the log. Plett outfit Jaguars travelled to Mossel Bay to take on Barbarians in a tough encounter.
The home side's third team got the day going with a winning score of 47-17.
The second team continued this trend with a very dominant 45-0 victory over the Plettonians. The first team game was the closest of the day, but the Barbarians still won the match
43-24.
