KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna United's first team continued its impressive run of form last weekend, extending its winning run to four consecutive games, while the second team played out to a tough draw. Both sides took on the Oudtshoorn sides of All Blacks, travelling to Oudtshoorn on Saturday 28 May for the fixtures.
Knysna United faced a tough game off the back of wins against Spring Roses, Silver Stars, and Prince Albert - the latest of which came in Knysna two weeks ago - and the two clubs were eager to battle it out on the field.
As per custom, the second teams kicked off first and a very close game unfolded. The sides were so close, in fact, that at the final whistle they were even on 20-20.
Knysna United's tries were scored by Marius Soldaat, Shaun Saunders and Shedwin Arries.
The first team game proved to be just as tight an affair as both sides had something to fight for - Knysna United to extend their lead at the top of the table, and All Blacks to go within a win's points value of Knysna United in the log standings.
With both teams giving it their all on the field, a draw would have been a fair outcome, but the visitors won out by a narrow one-point margin.
Tries from Manfred Soldaat (two), Elrico Wynand, Johan Groesbeek and Noureddine Filander helped secure Knysna United a nail-biting 31-30 victory that grows their lead at the top of the SWD Super League B table to six points. Happy Hearts lie in second place on 33 points.
The two CX clubs in the SWD Super League A, Sedgefield Eagle Stars and Jaguars, both enjoyed a bye last weekend.
The much-needed rest comes ahead of arguably both clubs' biggest game of the season, as the CX derby will pit them against each other at Grassy Park in Sedgefield on Saturday 4 June.
In the SWD First Division East League, the regionalised third division of local club rugby, Bitou Rugby Club will return to action this weekend to take on Arrows in Plettenberg Bay.
