KNYSNA NEWS - After a loss two weeks ago, Knysna United have bounced back to their winning ways with a big victory over Mossel Bay. Bitou Rugby Club narrowly lost to Black Birds as Sedgefield Eagle Stars and Jaguars also failed to register wins last weekend.
In the SWD Super League A after their Sedgefield/Plettenberg Bay derby two weeks ago, Eagle Stars would have been hoping to continue the sheer determination that ended up winning them the game, while Jaguars would have been hoping to bounce back.
The men from Sedgefield travelled to Oudtshoorn to take on Bridgton on Saturday 11 June. The third teams kicked off first and Bridgton laid down the marker for the day, winning 25-3.
The second team saw Eagle Stars score their first try of the day, but the home side still dominated the encounter and ultimately won 36-5.
The first team match was the most intriguing of the three, as Eagle Stars were able to somewhat hold their own. Nonetheless, Bridgton proved too strong, winning 47-20.
Bitou meanwhile were battling it out against Progress in Plettenberg Bay. Progress, from George, got their day off to the ideal start courtesy of a 30-14 win in the third team encounter. Next up, Progress secured their largest win of the day, whitewashing Jaguars in the second team match to win
47-0. Hoping to improve on this, Jaguars' firsts ran out on the field in the final match of the day. They avoided a whitewash, but couldn't avoid a large points deficit. Progress won the game 48-3.
In the SWD First Division East, Bitou Rugby Club travelled to Van Wyksdorp to face Black Birds. With no third team game, the second sides got the day going. Bitou got off to the dream start, securing a resounding 42-10 win. The first team would however be unable to emulate this positive result in a tough and nail-biting encounter. Black Birds' superior exploits from the kicking tee proved to be the difference as they secured a 9-8 victory over Bitou.
Meanwhile, back at Loerie Park, Knysna United welcomed the two Mossel Bay sides with the hopes of rekindling their good form after tough losses against Seagulls two weeks ago.
The second team match presented the perfect form-finding result for Knysna United, as they secured a 59-10 win to set the tone for the day.
The first team took this success a few steps further, powering their way to a 76-12 victory. Knysna United are still top of the log in the SWD Super League B.
