KNYSNA NEWS – The first annual Knysna Bulletjies U9 Development Rugby Tournament took place on Saturday 14 May.
The aim of the initiative is to promote and develop young rugby players in local communities. Knysna United Rugby Club, in association with the Hope for Athletes Development Agency (a non-profit company), hosted a special occasion with a total of 60 kids attending the development initiative.
The tournament was a pre-game warm-up for the official SWD Super League B game between Knysna United and Silver Stars.
The tournament consisted of four primary school teams - Fraaisig, Sunridge, Hornlee and Rheenendal.
The young kids were surprised all with their rugby skills and played good quality rugby. Rheenendal Primary won the battle by beating Hornlee Primary in a nail-biting final.
The managing director of Hope Athletes, Shedwin Arries, emphasised that there is nothing more important than fostering our local athletes' talent, identifying that talent and developing those individuals.
"We provide our athletes with a safe place to get physically active and make connections with their peers. We are proud to be associated with Knysna United," he said.
For more information on the initiative or to get involved, contact Arries on 081 723 4778 or Desmond van Rooyen (head coach of Knysna United) on 064 546 3357.
Participating primary school rugby players are welcomed to the event.
