KNYSNA SPORT NEWS - The third and final Urban X 3km Obstacle and Trail Run took place last weekend, wrapping up the three-part series two months after its initial conclusion date.
The first in the Suunto Urban X series, organised by Coyote Events, took place on 1 November and was welcomed by a large crowd of enthusiastic participants. The second edition was held on 6 December, but with fewer participants due to the rising number of Covid-19 cases in Knysna at the time.
The final event was supposed to happen on 3 January, but due to the lockdown regulations at the time, could not be held. Two-and-a-half months later, the time finally came for the third event on Sunday 21 March.
While participant numbers were not as high as the first one, they exceeded those seen at the second event. This could be largely attributed to the weather in Knysna and Sedgefield.

Both towns had seen a fair bit of rain throughout the previous evening and in the early morning, potentially discouraging a few participants. However, the scene at Blackwaters River Lodge was far different, with clouds overhead and barely a drop of rain when the race kicked off at 09:00.

The route followed the same setup as the second Urban X, making its way to and from some of the farms surrounding the lodge.
There were, however, some new obstacles around the mashie golf course, in addition to the traditional balance beam, mud crawl, parachute run, and dip in the Goukamma River. Participants had to tackle (and enjoy) a climbing wall, a tyre wall, and a 'slip n slide' as part of the final stretch.
Michael Rorke powered on ahead of the pack to cross the finish line first.
The event was held in aid of the Sedgefield Eagle Stars Rugby Club, who took on the course after everyone had completed their runs, and also held a 'ball skills' show after their run.
