KNYSNA SPORT NEWS - Knysna High School (KHS) went toe-to-toe with its Wittedrift counterpart (WHS) on Saturday 27 July when nine matches across three sports disciplines were played – hockey, netball, and rugby – at the Knysna High School sports fields.
The day got under way with netball and hockey games as early as 08:30, with proceedings continuing until shortly after 14:00 when the first rugby teams finished off their heated encounter.
The opening stages of the first-team rugby encounter swayed heavily in KHS' favour, as they scored the first try of the match, but which went unconverted.

The home side's dominance didn't last long however, as they missed a penalty while WHS was able to run in two converted tries to take a healthy lead. Throughout the first half there was the threat of a fight breaking out between the two teams, with things getting all the more fiery as the game went on.
Just before halftime, this came to fruition in the form of some pushing and shoving which quickly turned into fists flying and ended with spectators getting involved in the brouhaha. The result was a red card for KHS and a yellow card for the rivals. Luckily for the spirit of the game, this failed to taint the quality of rugby played by both sides in the second half, as all unnecessary physical contact was left behind in the first half. Despite a late resurgence from KHS, Wittedrift held on to their lead to do the double over the Knysna boys, having beaten them earlier this year as well.
