KNYSNA NEWS - More than 400 cyclists lined up for the Knysna Toyota 7 Passes the past weekend.
In the open men's race, Ollie Munnik produced a decisive performance, breaking away from his two closest rivals before the Phantom Pass descent and riding solo to victory.
The women's race was won convincingly by Jackie Davidoff, while local rider Anna Hall secured second place after a fierce battle to hold off Ella Corrigan.
The majority of the field took on the gruelling 76km route, which started in Wilderness and tackled a series of mountain passes.
As an official event on the South African cycling calendar, racing was conducted under formal regulations, with the men and women starting ten minutes apart, followed later by the e-bike category.
The 38km race began in Karatara and delivered exciting racing - particularly among the younger riders - all the way to the finish at The Farm venue at the foot of the Simola Pass.
The development Kano Team from Plettenberg Bay stood out, dominating several of the junior and youth categories.
Off the bike, the event maintained a relaxed and social atmosphere. All entrants enjoyed a post-race lunch and a beer included in their entry, rounding off the day on a festive note.
