KNYSNA NEWS - The Mega High School Sports Festival was a resounding success, bringing together teams from across the country for a week of intense competition and outstanding sportsmanship.
The tournament, hosted by Southern Cape Sports Tours (SCST), took place in Knysna and George from 30 March to 4 April.
A hockey tournament was hosted across Knysna High School and Oakhill School in Knysna, and Glenwood House School in George.
Numerous schools participated in the hockey games and spectators were treated to thrilling matches, with players demonstrating impressive tactical awareness and technical ability. Knysna High School u.16 girl's team coach Georgea Smith said the event promoted a spirit of friendliness and fellowship.
"The event also fostered camaraderie among schools, as players bonded over their shared love for the sport. With the success of this year's SCST tournament, anticipation is already building for the next edition, where even more young athletes will have the opportunity to shine."
Knysna High School u.16 boys ended second out of 13 teams and the u.18 boys were third out of 17 teams.
Great teams and good spirit
The u.16 boys team coach, Basil Medeira, said some good schools from different parts of the country participated in the tournament.
The matches were played in good spirit.
"There are and will always be issues with technical desks and match officials, but that didn't spoil the sportsmanship of our players. We played our game because we love the sport," he said. "We have some great talent within our own Knysna High teams, and with the help of our local businesses and individuals' support, we can have our teams and players compete with other provinces and teams."
