This, the latest offering by the Cape Fight League (CFL) is a clear example why the CFL is fast positioning itself as the premier event for fighters who intend paving a successful career for themselves in the world of Mixed Martial Art and K1.
Twenty-two bouts were scheduled on a big card, but with one withdrawal, the evening saw 21 bouts,10 of which were Pro-am and four of those for highly sought after titles.
Jean du Plessis representing Tap Out Academy Knysna (TOAK) weighed in at 63kg and faced off against a very tough opponent. In the first round Du Plessis lead with a few blows then shot in and scored a single leg takedown. In the second round his opponent led with a head-kick that was blocked by Du Plessis, before a clinch saw both fighters hit the canvass with Du Plessis on top.
His opponent turned him around and got to his feet, but was caught with an up-kick and lost his footing, which Du Plessis took advantage of and mounted for side control. As in the first two rounds, a small exchange was made and Du Plessis shot in for the takedown where most of the round was spent competing for position and control. Du Plessis eventually took the win via unanimous decision, taking his MMA record four to one.
