KNYSNA NEWS - It was sun's out guns out in Knysna recently when bodybuilders from across the Garden Route and further afield participated in the annual IFBB MaxFITT Knysna Bodybuilding Show.
Hosted at the Plettenberg Bay Primary School by MaxFITT – an online coaching business – and the International Federation of Bodybuilding (IFBB) on 6 April, athletes competed in a range of categories, from beach and fitness bikini to physique and classic bodybuilding.
Knysna's athletes did not disappoint and produced several winners including Clayton Kiewitz, who won the first place in the men's physique division.
Not the first time
This comes in the wake of Kiewitz winning the Destiny Rise of Iron bodybuilding and fitness challenge at the Garden Route Casino last month in the open men's physique category. Jade Kruger from Sedgefield also took the top spot at the local competition in the beach bikini category.
Other winners include Gino Nortje from George who took first place in the U23 division as well as first in the novice men's bodybuilding category.
Christo Jantjies from Albertinia won the classic bodybuilding and the U80kg men's bodybuilding division and also flexed his way to becoming the show's overall winner.
Natasja Jansen van Vuuren from George managed first place in the fitness bikini division while Slade Sparks from Mossel Bay took the win in the U70kg bodybuilding category.
Several prizes won
Not only did the athletes walk away with bragging rights, but there were several prizes up for grabs including free membership to Knysna gym Empire, HMT Nutrition supplement vouchers, Fierce Fox bikini vouchers for the women and KS Fitness supplements.
"Bodybuilding is definitely growing in Knysna. I see a lot of talent in Knysna, but I just don't see it being developed enough," said Maxwell Kiewitz, founder of MaxFITT.
This was one of the reasons he had created the competition, he said.
"I am doing my best to raise awareness about this amazing sport, to develop support. Not too many people understand what discipline goes into this sport, but when you go watch your first bodybuilding show, all that discipline shows." Kiewitz said health and fitness constitute one of the biggest industries at the moment.
"And what better way than to portray it through showing these amazing bodies that these athletes have built through a healthy lifestyle."
