KNYSNA NEWS - Whether you are a spectator of or a participant in sport of almost any sort, the coming weeks will be a dream come true with loads of events and tournaments on the cards.
A number of sport events are being held all around Knysna, covering a variety of sport codes - cycling, trail running, boxing, chess, soccer, golf, netball, and even canoeing - all part of the Knysna Oyster Festival.
Late June and early July are jam-packed. It kicked off last weekend with the first round of fixtures in the 2022 KLFA Oyster Soccer Tournament, which continues this weekend and concludes next weekend. The festival itself starts on Friday 1 July, and the Knysna Cycle Tour will make its return in the physical for the first time since 2019 - but in a very revised format with no road race this year.

Instead there are two days of mountain biking - the first held at the The Farm and the second at Garden Route Trail Park.
This weekend also features the Featherbed Trail Run and Open Rapid Chess Tournament on Saturday and the Sunrise Trail Run as well as the Harbour2Heads Lagoon Challenge canoe race on Sunday.
During the week, matters will quiet down a bit, but Monday 4 July will see two Athletics SWD events at Loerie Park and on Wednesday 6 July, the Oyster Inter-School Chess Tournament will be held. Runners will be able to take part in the KnysnaX Trail Series Winter Run on Thursday 7 July and golfers can enjoy the inaugural Oyster Better Ball Championship at Knysna Golf Club on Friday 8 July.

Friday will also mark the start of the Oyster Netball Tournament, which will conclude the next day, Saturday 9 July. While netball players will be battling it out on the court, runners will be pounding the trails as part of the 37th Knysna Forest Marathon which gets underway under the cover of darkness early on Saturday morning.
On Saturday, the Knysna Oyster Canoe Polo Competition also gets going while the soccer tournament continues and the Oyster Boxing Tournament takes place in the evening.
The final day of the sports action on Sunday 10 July features the Houtkapper Trail Run followed by the conclusion of the canoe polo competition and the KLFA Oyster Soccer Tournament, the final of which will be played at Loerie Park.
