SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - Over the past week, July 6-11, the Southern Cape men's hockey team took part in the annual South African Country districts hockey tournament.
Southern Cape were the reigning champions and successfully defended the title for seventh consecutive years in the run up to the 2015 tournament.
According Rob Leverton, manager of the Southern Cape men's hockey team, their goal for 2015 was to make the semi-finals "and this was achieved by beating Western Province 3-2 in a tight game."
"Southern Cape met KZN Inland in the final and in a very close contest unfortunately lost 1-0. The team walk away with heads held high with a record of never losing a semi-final match in their history and a record of seven consecutive titles, a feat surely never to be repeated!"
Leverton said "the team honestly believe that without the support of our sponsors, family and friends, no tournament can be such a success.

The Southern Cape team walked away with the Griffon Fair play trophy and Ben Buys was selected to represent the South African Country districts team at the upcoming IPT.
The results for the week were as follows:
- Southern Cape beat Inland B 4-2.
- Southern Cape drew with Mpumalanga 1-1.
- Southern Cape beat Limpopo B 8-1.
- Southern Cape beat KZN Coastals 2-0.
- Southern Cape beat Southern Gauteng 3-1.
- Southern Cape beat Western Province 3-2 (semi-final).
- Southern Cape lost to KZN Inland A 1-0 (final).
