GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The Garden Route Radio Sailing Club (GRRSC) recently hosted the East West Radio Controlled Sailing Regatta, held on the Hartenbos river, and according to organisers it went off very well despite the river losing a lot of water days before due to the opening of the Hartenbos river mouth.
The southerly wind on Saturday 24 November created an awkward course as it blew across the river. Sunday's south-easter was perfect.
A total of 30 races were sailed over the two days, with 11 competitors hailing from Cape Town, the Garden Route, and Kwa-Zulu Natal taking part.
Des Fairbanks from KZN had just returned from sailing in the Dragon Flite 95 global champions in Dallas Texas.
The top five places went to Craig Richards from Cape Town (first), Fairbanks (second), Brain Buddle from Cape Town (third), Clem Vroom from GRRSC (fourth), and Llewllyn Thomas, also from GRRSC (fifth).
Well done to all who sailed in this first regatta of the new "Dragon Flite 95" class. A great thank you goes to GRRSC Commodore George Winter and his team for making this event happen.
