PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Wittedrift High School learners proved their mettle at the Destiny SA Championships in Stellenbosch recently when four youngsters were crowned national champions in various mixed martial arts disciplines.
Over and above this, they also raked in a heap of medals and trophies.
Proud father of two of the participants Marius Venter said the teenagers did not only do their school and club proud, but also their home town of Plettenberg Bay.
All from the same club, SKA Plett, Lojza Pisonic (16) fought his way to becoming the national kumite grand champion, while Stefan Venter (14) won two gold medals and was crowned national champion in both points and continuous fighting divisions. Robbie Styger (15) also won two gold medals and took top honours in his age category in the points and continuous-fighting divisions while Yohandrie Peens (16) was crowned national grand champ in the points division and won a gold medal for her efforts.
It also appears that the talent runs in the family as two participants' younger siblings also shone at the event.
Stefan's younger brother Wian, a Plettenberg Bay Primary School learner, won a silver medal in continuous fighting while Robbie's younger brother David, from the same school, also won a silver medal for continuous fighting.
