KNYSNA HOCKEY NEWS - Old Oaks Knysna Hockey Club's two sides continued their strong starts to the season with big victories over Wanderers last weekend at the Oakhill Sport Campus (OSC).
The games were part of round two of the 2021 Eden Senior League, which got under way on Saturday 8 May. In the first round, Old Oaks' ladies side had kicked off their pursuit of a fifth straight title with an 18-0 win over George while the men's side earned a tough 2-0 win over York High to start their title defence.
Lying in wait in the second round were the two Wanderers sides, who always pose an interesting challenge regardless of who they come up against. Going into the second round, Old Oaks' ladies were top of the table on goal difference. The men's side was third with Leopards on top, based on goal difference, and Outeniqua High second, based on goal difference and goals scored.
As in the first round, the two ladies sides clashed first at the OSC. This time they were blessed with better weather as the air was cool but there was still enough sun to keep warm as they went at it on the turf. The Old Oaks ladies roared into action in the first quarter, taking a 6-0 lead.
The second and fourth quarters were the Wanderers' best as Old Oaks only managed one goal in each of these quarters, while the third quarter saw two goals scored. This saw Old Oaks secure a 10-0 victory, with Britney Booysen scoring four goals to bring her season tally thus far to 10 goals in two games.

The men's game followed at 15:30, starting with a cagey first quarter as both sides settled into the fixture. Old Oaks took the lead in the second quarter with a goal from Marcello Moretti before Darren Kamfer doubled the lead to go into half-time at 2-0.
Four goals came in the third quarter and none in the fourth, seeing the game finish 6-0 to Old Oaks. Kamfer finished with three goals to secure his hat-trick and take the lead as the top scorer for the season.
Old Oaks' men's team will face Quarry this weekend and the ladies side will take on York High.
