KNYSNA NEWS - Oakhill's U11 and U13 teams recently took part in the KPSSS/Eden league finals in rugby, netball and hockey respectively.
On Saturday 25 August, the U11 netball girls competed against Plett Primary at the Knysna High School fields, with both teams giving it their all to make it through to the KPSSS finals against Knysna Primary. Although the girls lost in the final round, they showed wonderful skills, courage and exceptional behaviour, and can be proud for achieving silver on the day, in addition to the honour of being the first Oakhill U11 netball team ever to make it through to the league finals.
Similarly, the U11 rugby boys competed in the U11 KPSSS League this year and had an exceptional season. With an almost clean sheet they advanced to the KPSSS Champs which was also held at the high school grounds on the same day.
They faced a very strong Plett Primary in their semifinal match and managed to beat them to advance to the finals against Knysna Primary. Oakhill's boys played with passion and determination but unfortunately weren't able to beat the reigning champs. They did, however, receive silver and make Oakhill history as the first rugby team to advance through to a league final.
On Saturday 1 September it was the U13 hockey team's turn to compete in the A-division of the Eden Hockey League finals that took place at the Oakhill Sports Campus, with teams from Knysna, George, Mossel Bay, Plett and Oudtshoorn all vying for the title of 2018 champs.

Both Oakhill's boys and girls teams won their semifinal matches to advance to the finals, where the girls were up against Wesbank from Oudtshoorn, and the boys faced league winners from last year, Holy Cross from George. The Oakhill U13 girls beat Wesbank to claim the title of 2018 Eden League Champs, while the boys ended as runners-up to a very strong Holy Cross.

Acting director of Oakhill Prep sport, Ruan Swart, said, "To put it into words I will share one of my favourite quotes: 'Sportsmanship for me is when a team walks off the field and you really can’t tell if they won or lost when they carry themselves with pride either way.' Our rugby, netball and hockey teams all achieved this, not only in the finals but throughout the season. We are immensely proud of all the players and coaches."
