KNYSNA NEWS - Oakhill School has a fine reputation across sports disciplines and celebrates the many individuals who participate.
The recent school holiday has seen a number of College learners perform exceptionally well across various fields, from cycling to body boarding, hockey, gymnastics, kickboxing and even motorcross.
"It is great to see our Oakhill sportsmen and women pursuing their sporting passions and achieving outside of school sport.
"I want to commend them all on their achievements – Oakhill is proud of you," comments Oakhill College sports director Brendan Keevey.

• Danni-May Nel, in Grade 8 at Oakhill College, has recently started kickboxing and seems to be a natural. In less than two years she has graded to a beginner, orange belt.
Danni-May qualified at the SWD kickboxing trials in George in March and was awarded SWD colours.
She has progressed to take part in the national championships, representing SWD and receiving two bronze for both points and continuous-fighting divisions on 7 October.
An invitation has also been extended to Danni-May to participate at an international event in Orlando, USA in July 2018, however Danni-May will be not be attending as she will be on Oakhill exchange to Germany next year.
Congratulations to Danni-May and her trainer sempai Gee at Sport Kickboxing Academy in Plett.
• Julian Bunge achieved an impressive third place at the national Spur Schools MTB league finals, held on the weekend of 8 October at Bekker School in Magaliesberg, Gauteng.
This event attracted the top 436 mountain bike riders, representing 84 schools around the country.
To qualify, Julian trained extremely hard throughout the year, earning various local and regional podium placings, as well as Western Cape colours.
Julian is a Grade 8 learner at Oakhill School and has achieved this wonderful feat with the help and support of the local cycling community, including Marike Vreken, Absolute Motion, Tyrone van Rooyen (Bespoke Cycle Shop) and Trek South Africa.

• Kade Howorth, a Grade 10 learner at Oakhill, placed second in the junior division in a tight competition at the SA Body Boarding Championships in Durban from the 2 to 6 October.
Kade represented the Eden Body Boarding Association and as a 16-year-old, has just moved into the juniors from the boys' division where he placed first in South Africa last year.
When asked about the experience, Kade comments that he "just wants to keep surfing better".
Kade extends his water aptitudes to the pool where he captains Oakhill's boys water polo 1st team and is also going to SA Schools water polo representing Eden U19 in December.
• Liam Heynderickx, Grade 9 learner at Oakhill, competed at the recent national SA Gym Games, which took place in Pretoria from 1 to 8 October.
The event is the SA Gymnastics Federation’s largest national event, which sees titles being awarded across all competitive gymnastics disciplines.
Liam ranked eighth overall for level 4 men's artistic gymnastics, in the 13-18 age group.
• Sam Mvimbi, Grade 12 Oakhill learner, has once again made our town proud by being selected to represent South Africa for the third time in a row.
Sam has represented both the U16 and U18 South African hockey squads, and it was announced on 2 October that Sam will also be playing for the SA men's U21 hockey squad – a superb achievement!
